ABOUT PCWS

We strive to develop thoughtful, fulfilled citizens who have the capacity to think imaginatively, communicate effectively, and relate compassionately. We believe in the Waldorf curriculum for educating the whole human being: head, heart and hands, nurturing well-rounded individuals who will be successful in school and beyond. Early Childhood

Our school offers a developmentally appropriate, experiential approach to education based on an authentic Waldorf curriculum. PCWS provides the following early childhood programs: Parent-Child classes, Pre-K and Mixed-Age Kindergarten.

Elementary

We also provide elementary education for 1st  through 5th grade with small classes, an engaging environment and an individualized approach to teaching that emphasizes whole child development.

PCWS is the only accredited Waldorf school in Northern Virginia.

PCWS is not equipped to support students with severe learning or behavioral challenges. However, many students with diverse learning styles thrive with our authentic Waldorf curriculum.

Our Philosophy

PCWS educates children based on the educational philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, a developmental approach that emphasizes goodness, beauty and truth. We endeavor to build a diverse community that supports each other and works together to create a healthy social life. Our faculty brings the Waldorf curriculum to students in ways that cultivate in each child a sense of meaning and purpose in life, kindness, respect, academic excellence, confidence, creativity and a love of learning.

Our History

Our school was founded in 1997 by Waldorf teachers and parents and named for the bend in the nearby Potomac River. We moved into our current location in Old Town in Spring 2023.

"The need for imagination, a sense of truth and a feeling of responsibility - these are the three forces which are the very nerve of education." - Rudolf Steiner
